THE PINKNEY DINKINS BRANCH OF THE FAMILY TREEÂ
PINKNEY DINKINS

This Dinkins Family Reunion consists mostly of descendants of Pinkney Dinkins, who married Rebecca Gray. After Rebecca’s death, Pinkney married Mary Chestnut.
These two unions produced many children and a vast array of descendants of the Pinkney Dinkins Branch of the Dinkins Family Tree. We are a magnificent family tree–growing from the historical roots of our long-ago SC ancestors John Dinkins and Catherine, parents of Pinkney.

The Dinkins family first came to America in October 1717 when brothers John, James, and Thomas landed in Charleston along with four members of the Armstrong family: brothers John, William, Robert, Henry, as well as cousin Rufus George.

The Dinkinses, originally Welsh, migrated to Scotland and later to Londonderry, Northern Ireland. From Ireland, they left for America. By 1723, they were settled in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

DINKINS FAMILY REUNION CHAPTERS
Dinkins Family Reunion Chapters, consisting of descendants of Pinkney Dinkins, officially organized during the height of the development of family reunions around the country and a keen interest in genealogies. The SC Chapter was the inaugural chapter for our branch of the Dinkins Family Tree. Edgar Dinkins (b.1924-d.2014) was the first president. Then in the early 1980s, the torch was passed to the next generation. Robert Dinkins led efforts to formalize the organization of the family reunion.
The first "Dinkins Family Reunion" under Robert's leadership was held May 3-4, 2008, with most events held in Rembert, SC. This reunion was a celebration among the descendants of Hodge Dinkins (son of Pinkney Dinkins & Rebecca Gray) and Leacy Miller Dinkins (daughter of Isaac Miller & Lucy Scott).
Later in 2008, Robert Dinkins invited family members in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area to form a chapter. In October, the DC Chapter was formed. Founding officers were Richmond Workman (president), Laura Williamson (vice president), Dianne Talley (treasurer), and Julia M. Dinkins (secretary).
